Here are the updated profile photos of the Governing Body with their names, and the committees they are in. This article goes into each committee and gives updates on which governing body member is assigned to what committee.
The Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses, headquartered in Warwick, New York, serves as the governing council for the denomination. This body is responsible for formulating doctrines, supervising the creation of written materials for publications and conventions, and managing the denomination’s global operations. Members of the Governing Body are referred to as followers of Christ rather than religious leaders in official publications, but to their members, they are known as ‘the faithful and discreet slave.’
The size of the Governing Body has fluctuated over time, ranging from seven members during specific periods (2010–2012, 2014–2018) to eighteen members in earlier years (1974–1975, 1977–1979). The selection of new members is carried out by existing members.
The Coordinators Committee Supervises legal matters, persecution for religious beliefs, and other urgent matters. The Coordinator’s committee of the Governing Body is the smallest group out of the committees, and they are some of the most deep and ‘mentally in’ Jehovah’s Witnesses to carry out the assignments.
The helpers committee is similar to managing directors. They help with talks, broadcasts, and anything the Governing Body may need assistance with. Mark Scott was recently added to the Personnel Committee, publicly made available January 24, 2024. Ralph Walls, Gerald Grizzle, Patrick LaFranca, and Daniel Molchan have been helpers for many years.
The Publishing Committee is responsible for overseeing the production, distribution, and shipping of literature, including books, magazines, brochures, and other written materials. They are also head of the translation office. Their role is integral to the organization’s mission of spreading their beliefs and teachings.
The Service Committee oversees field ministry reports, Public relations, Training, and Support for other Bethelites, and Congregation organizations.
Gary Breaux is notoriously known for his statement: “We will never remove the 2 witness rule” requirement. Another is a video he was involved in for new Witnesses residing in Bethel regarding repressing their sexual desires. As a part of the Service Department, he also oversees matters regarding Child Sexual Abuse.
Governing Body member Gerrit Losch was an assistant to Sam Herd on the Service Committee. Now for 2024 Mark Sanderson oversees the Service Committee, with Gage Fleegle as assistant.
The Teaching Committee is in charge of guiding and developing the audio, videos, and online correspondence, along with ensuring the accuracy and consistency of their doctrinal teachings across various educational materials. Governing Body David Splane helps oversee this committee. Leonard Myers oversees the structure of the writing committee and he is responsible for getting remote volunteers all over the world to assist the Writing Committee office.
The Writing Committee is a large team and is in charge of writing the publications and letters sent out worldwide. They make sure everything is in place and accurate before publishing.
Leonard Myers oversees the structure of the writing committee and is responsible for getting remote volunteers from all over the world to assist the Writing Committee office.
Governing Body members Kenneth Cooke and David Splane helped oversee this committee and gave the approval for assignments and publications to be submitted. Now for 2024 the Writing Committee has Dave Splane as overseer, with Mark Sanderson assisting.
The Legal department is now primarily dealing with helping with legal issues rather than making legalistic decisions for the Organization. The Legal department in the past held the database for CSA in the Organization, which has now been transferred to the Service Department.

Regarding the announcement on December 15th, 2023 that beards are now a personal decision, an update has been posted regarding members of the Governing Body Committees spotted sporting facial hair in 2024.
On Jehovah’s Witnesses’ Frequently Asked Questions, they have often updated their page, “What is the Governing Body of Jehovah’s Witnesses“. These updates are usually made discreetly. One could argue that the updates are made in bad faith because there is no revision date provided for when updates are made. However, AvoidJW, faithfully and discreetly keeps a record of all page updates. We provide them here in PDF and MP3 format for you to download.
