The Svea Court of Appeals upholds the district court’s ruling against a church leader, one of Jehovah’s Witnesses, who was convicted of showing films not reviewed by the State Media Council for Children at the Stockholm International Fair 2018.

The church leader was convicted in April of violating the Age Limit Act for films to be shown publicly.
Jehovah’s Witnesses appealed the judgment to the High Court citing religious freedom and freedom of speech. On Friday, the Supreme Court announced that it will uphold the district court’s ruling.
In the summer, it emerged that Jehovah’s Witnesses continued to show film screenings during their regional conventions following the district court’s ruling, which led to several new police reports.
Jehovah’s Witnesses have on several occasions been criticized for the films directed at children that their organization produces. Among other things, the films have been accused of being discriminatory against homosexuals and of intimidating children with doomsday messages.
