Arrogance rides triumphantly through the gates, barely glancing at the old woman about to cut the rope and spring shut the trap.
– Mason Cooley

In the “Internet Age”, it’s quite likely you’ll find a Jehovah’s Witness responding to a religious thought on a message board, on a Facebook status update, in a tweet, on a YouTube video or some other electronic source.

Jehovah’s Witnesses are taught to be “without spot from the world” as found in the words of James 1:27:

The form of worship that is clean and undefiled from the standpoint of our God and Father is this: to look after orphans and widows in their tribulation, and to keep oneself without spot from the world.
– New World Translation 1984 & 2013

Yet, when you read their comments on message boards and other internet locations, they seem to be as bad as, or dare I say it, worse than “worldly people”. They sometimes have an air of arrogance that you don’t see in other religious folk. Or maybe you do.

Here is an example of a statement made by one of Jehovah’s Witnesses on the internet that oozes arrogance:

…as far as me being on this website.   I am a grown man I can look at what ever I want to look at.  I’m not under any restriction’s from another human being.   And it’s definitely not cool how you twist what the org actually says.   They don’t tell you that can’t read outside literature or go on websites, they tell you that it’s best not to.   And anyone with common sense can understand why they say it.
Case and point….YOU…You’ve been mislead and souped up by the world, causing you to turn your back on Jehovah.
I don’t know how old you are, you seem a bit young, but I’m a grandfather to teenage kids, so that should give you a little idea of how old I am.   I’ve been on both sides, and I promise you this, Jehovah’s only True org is the only way.   Trust and believe.  That world is going to chew you up and spit you out.   You’ll see.  LOL
You and that Apostate chick think your being strong, HAAAA  your not.  You all are actually opposite, you are both weak minded and easily mislead.  FACT
You sound just like the rest of the ApostateS, with all the crap they’re talking.   What do you mean by false predictions?  You mean that false prophecy crap?
Correction do you mean human beings misinterpreting prophecy in the BIBLE?   Is that what you mean?
So what,?  They made a mistake, unfortunately that’s what imperfect men do.  And anyone with common sense, understands that fully.    Oh and now you going with the molestation crap too, huh?     Weak…..    I’ll tell you what..If you wan’t to leave just leave, why do you have to throw people under the bus in order to ease your conscience about turning your back on Jehovah.   Looking for tits on a mouse, won’t change the fact that you chose Satan and his system of things over the truth and Jehovah.
You said ” open your eyes friend”
MY eyes are wide open, but yours most def aren’t.    But keep on living long enough you will see.   The world is going to kick your back in, Bro.  You think your missing out on something huh?     All I can say is see a sucker, bump his head”
The world is going to bump your head so hard, you aint gonna know what hit you.
All I can say is.  Watch your back.  LOLLLL
Champion Farrows

The following is the response by what Champion Farrows perceives as an “apostate”:

I’m not sure what good this will do, but I will try and respond with reason and logic to your other statements:
“I’m not under any restriction’s from another human being.”
Except for the governing body, who directs and writes your literature, that does tell you what is and is not acceptable. They tell you what you can and can’t do with family, friends, and even with your wife in your bedroom. I can provide references to your literature, if you like.

“They don’t tell you that can’t read outside literature or go on websites, they tell you that it’s best not to.   And anyone with common sense can understand why they say it.
Case and point….YOU…You’ve been misled and souped up by the world, causing you to turn your back on Jehovah.”
This really is an excellent point that you have made for me. You are saying they discourage members from reading outside literature, because you might end up like me. You know what you just said? [In effect] you said “The organization discourages people from reading outside literature because then people would leave the organization.” So you admit that the teachings and “facts” cannot withstand someone reading outside literature or doing some actual fact checking.

You want to talk about twisting what the society writes? How about the Twenty Three scientists that were all misquoted in their book that was released just 4 years ago?

In regards the list of failed / false prophecies by the organization, here’s a list:
http://carm.org/jehovahs-witnesses-and-their-many-false-prophecies
I understand that “men are imperfect”, but if God was in control of your organization and directing it, does it make sense that he would allow his only representative and only “true” organization on earth to repeatedly make false predictions and claims, and embarrass themselves (and by extension, him) over and over again? Is that logical?
If by “easily misled” and “weak minded” you mean that we consider actual facts, do research, and study without blindly believing, then sure, you can go with that.
I’m glad you seem to have a great family – if I seem young, let me clear that up. I served the organization for over 20 years, and I’ve been out for over 10. I hold degrees in sociology and anthropology, and I’ve studied the Bible – it’s unedited version with the books that were left out, thanks to the church in the middle ages – in their original languages. My mind is far from closed or blinded. If you can – hell, if anyone can – present actual evidence and facts without distortion or misquoting scientists that supports your belief system, I will absolutely consider it and look it over with an open mind. I will support any belief system that can back itself up with actual evidence and facts. (We told you so and we have Jehovah’s spirit so it must be true is NOT evidence).
I’m still waiting for the world to “chew me up and spit me out”. Don’t worry about my conscience, either. Me and it are just fine.
– Joe Bergess

Here are some statements from one of Jehovah’s Witnesses that have that same arrogance that are shown by the user above:
It just baffles me how scripturally illiterate you people are. You rave on about Jehovah’s Witnesses shunning people as if it’s unbiblical. have you ever read 2 corinthians 2:6? Read the entire chapter if you’re able. See what the Apostle Paul says about associating with unrepentant sinners and unbelievers.
And the response by an “apostate”:
2 Cor 2: 5-11:
5  Now if anyone has caused sadness,+ he has saddened, not me, but all of you to an extent—not to be too harsh in what I say. 6  This rebuke given by the majority is sufficient for such a man; 7  now you should instead kindly forgive and comfort him,+ so that he may not be overwhelmed* by excessive sadness.+ 8  I therefore exhort you to confirm your love for him.+ 9  For this is also why I wrote to you: to determine whether you would give proof of your obedience in all things. 10  If you forgive anyone for anything, I do also. In fact, whatever I have forgiven (if I have forgiven anything) has been for your sake in Christ’s sight, 11  so that we may not be overreached* by Satan,+ for we are not ignorant of his designs
This is the part that Jehovah’s Witnesses ignore:
“…you should instead kindly forgive and comfort him,+ so that he may not be overwhelmed* by excessive sadness…”
Ignoring this verse is why ex-Witnesses are “overwhelmved by excessive sadness” and hence why the Watchtower has been “overreached by Satan”.
Then the retort from the Jehovah’s Witness:
[Jack Wallace is] also illiterate to the scriptures. The Apostle is exhorting those within the congregation to show love and forgiveness toward each other; not apostate unrepentant sinners. That’s why he says in 1corinthians 5 ” But now I am writing you to STOP KEEPING CONPANY with ANYONE (yes, ANYONE. blood family or spirit family? Doesn’t matter. ANYONE) called a brother who is sexually immoral or a greedy person or an idolater or a reviler or a drunkard or an extortioner, NOT EVEN EATING WITH SUCH A MAN. 12 For what do I have to do with judging those outside? Do you not judge those INSIDE (what does inside mean to you?), 13 while God judges those outside? “REMOVE(what does remove mean to you?) the wicked person from amoung yourselves”
There’s your “context”, darling, read it and weep. Do you see how clueless… keyboard warrior Wallace [is]? Don’t answer that please. I grow weary of you who can’t deal with the Apostle Pauls guidelines for what it means to be a Christian, instead just whinging about the consequences. LOL
– Voice of Reason
And then the final response from the “apostate”. Incidentally, no response was given to the following from the user, Voice of Reason:
“1corinthians 5 ” But now I am writing you to STOP KEEPING CONPANY with ANYONE...”
Which letter was written first? If there was any doubt in how to deal with the words in I Corinthians 5, surely they were clarified in 2 Corinthians 2? You talk about context. A chapter may be context but a whole book provides more context. So then surely, 2 books would provide additional context.
1 Corinthians does not condone shunning. “Not even eating with such a man” is no grounds for shunning. It’s just grounds for not having a meal with someone. If there was any doubt, Paul clarified things in his second letter to the Corinthians.
You can call me me “keyboard warrior Wallace” or whatever name you see fit as it’s clear you avoid answering the question by name calling.
All you do is quote scripture randomly. Remember: Ex-Witnesses have as much, if not more, biblical knowledge as current Witnesses. After all, we used to read the same literature, learn the same teachings, follow the same cult leaders, and “taking in knowledge” of Jesus Christ (John 17:3 NWT 1984). Just on the scripture I’ve referenced: For years the Born Again Christians have taken issue with how the Witnesses translated John 17:3. When I’d go from door to door and meet them, they would bring it up all the time. The fact that it was translated as “taking in Knowledge” was completely misguiding people on what it meant to get ever lasting life. The Born Again Christians would say it’s “Coming to Know” Jesus Christ … because getting knowledge of Him and getting to know Him are two completely different things. Eventually, the Witnesses changed their translation and what do you know? It’s now translated as “coming to know” Jesus Christ (John 17:3 NWT 2013).
So, up until 2013, the Jehovah’s Witnesses had no clue on how to attain everlasting life – one of the main tenets of christianity – as their translation had completely lost the meaning of everlasting life.
Jehovah obviously had left them in the dark until way after the end of the world didn’t come.
“there’s your “context”, darling, read it and weep.”
Context isn’t confined to text alone. When we talk about context, we also need to look at other dimensions too, such as dates, locations, people etc.
