New World Translation: Genesis Chapter 7

Since, the publication of their first bible in 1950, Jehovah’s Witnesses have made three major changes to their bibles. After the release of their first fully bound bible entitled New World Translation of the Holy Scriptures in 1961, they revised this edition in 1984 and then again in 2013.

There are major differences in content between their three bible editions. But what are they? it’s very difficult to know because the Watchtower Society, the organization behind Jehovah’s Witnesses, has not included a change log detailing the differences. Therefore, AvoidJW.org is pleased to provide you with a chapter by chapter comparison of the differences between these editions of their bible.

Text in BLUE is what is different between the 1961 Edition and the 1984 Edition

Text in RED is what has been deleted from the 1984 Edition when compared with the 2013 Edition.

Text in PURPLE is where the text has been completely revised.

Text in GREEN is what has been added to the 2013 Edition when compared with the 1984 Edition.

Genesis

Chapter 7

1961 Edition

1 After that Jehovah said to Noah “Go, you and all your household, into the ark, because you are the one I have seen to be righteous before me among this generation.

2 Of every clean beast you must take to yourself by sevens, the sire and its mate, and of every beast that is not clean just two, the sire and its mate;

3 also of the flying creatures of the heavens by sevens, male and female, to preserve offspring alive on the surface of the entire earth.

4 For in just seven days more I am making it rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights, and I will wipe every existing thing that I have made off the surface of the ground.”

5 And Noah proceeded to do according to all that Jehovah had commanded him.

6 And Noah was six hundred years old when the deluge of waters occurred on the earth.

7 So Noah went in, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark ahead of the waters of the deluge.

8 Of every clean beast and of every beast that is not clean and of the flying creatures and everything that creeps on the ground,

9 they went in by twos to Noah inside the ark, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah.

10 And seven days later it turned out that the waters of the deluge came upon the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on this day all the fountains of the great water canopy were broken open and the floodgate of the heavens were opened.

12 And the downpour upon earth went on for forty days and forty nights.

13 On this very day Noah went in, and Shem and Ham and Ja’pheth, Noah’s sons, and the wife of Noah and the three wives of his sons with him, into the ark;

14 they and every wild beast according to its kind and every domestic animal according to its kind and every creeping animal that creeps on the earth according to its kind and every flying creature of the heavens according to its kind, every bird, every winged creature.

15 And they kept going to Noah inside the ark, two by two, of every sort of flesh in which the force of life was active.

16 And those going in, male and female of every sort of flesh, went in, just as God had commanded him. After that Jehovah shut the door behind him.

17 And the deluge went on for forty days upon the earth, and the waters kept increasing and began carrying the ark and it was floating high above the earth.

18 And the waters became overwhelming and kept increasing greatly upon the earth, but the ark kept going on the surface of the waters.

19 And the waters overwhelmed the earth so greatly that all the tall mountains that were under the whole heavens came to be covered.

20 Up to fifteen cubits the waters overwhelmed them and the mountains became covered.

21 So all flesh that was creeping upon the earth expired, among the flying creatures and among the domestic animals and among the wild beasts and among all the swarms that were swarming upon the earth, and all mankind.

22 Everything in which the breath of the force of life was active in its nostrils of all that were on the dry ground died.

23 Thus he wiped out every existing thing that was on the surface of the ground, from man to beast, to creeping animal and to flying creature of the heavens, and they were wiped off the earth, and only Noah and those who were with him in the ark kept on surviving.

24 And the waters continued overwhelming the earth a hundred and fifty days.

1984 Edition

1 After that Jehovah said to Noah: “Go, you and all your household, into the ark, because you are the one I have seen to be righteous before me among this generation.

Of every clean beast you must take to yourself by sevens, the sire and its mate; and of every beast that is not clean just two, the sire and its mate;

also of the flying creatures of the heavens by sevens, male and female, to preserve offspring alive on the surface of the entire earth.

For in just seven days more I am making it rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and I will wipe every existing thing that I have made off the surface of the ground.”

And Noah proceeded to do according to all that Jehovah had commanded him.

And Noah was six hundred years old when the deluge of waters occurred on the earth.

So Noah went in, and his sons and his wife and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark ahead of the waters of the deluge.

Of every clean beast and of every beast that is not clean and of the flying creatures and everything that moves on the ground,

they went in by twos to Noah inside the ark, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah.

10 And seven days later it turned out that the waters of the deluge came upon the earth.

11 In the six hundredth year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the seventeenth day of the month, on this day all the springs of the vast watery deep were broken open and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

12 And the downpour upon the earth went on for forty days and forty nights.

13 On this very day Noah went in, and Shem and Ham and Ja′pheth, Noah’s sons, and the wife of Noah and the three wives of his sons with him, into the ark;

14 they and every wild beast according to its kind, and every domestic animal according to its kind, and every moving animal that moves on the earth according to its kind, and every flying creature according to its kind, every bird, every winged creature.

21 So all flesh that was moving upon the earth expired, among the flying creatures and among the domestic animals and among the wild beasts and among all the swarms that were swarming upon the earth, and all mankind.

22 Everything in which the breath of the force of life was active in its nostrils, namely, all that were on the dry ground, died.

23 Thus he wiped out every existing thing that was on the surface of the ground, from man to beast, to moving animal and to flying creature of the heavens, and they were wiped off the earth; and only Noah and those who were with him in the ark kept on surviving.

24  And the waters continued overwhelming the earth a hundred and fifty days.

2013 Edition

1 After that Jehovah said to Noah: “Go into the ark, you and all your household, because you are the one I have found to be righteous before me among this generation.

You must take with you every kind of clean animal by sevens, the male and its mate; and of every animal that is not clean just two, the male and its mate;

also of the flying creatures of the sky by sevens, male and female, to preserve their offspring alive over all the earth.

For in just seven days, I will make it rain on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights, and I will wipe from the surface of the ground every living thing that I have made.”

Then Noah did everything that Jehovah had commanded him.

 Noah was 600 years old when the floodwaters came upon the earth.

So Noah, along with his sons, his wife, and his sons’ wives, went into the ark ahead of the floodwaters.

Of every clean animal and of every animal that is not clean and of the flying creatures and of everything that moves on the ground,

they went inside the ark to Noah by twos, male and female, just as God had commanded Noah.

10 And seven days later the floodwaters came upon the earth.

11 In the 600th year of Noah’s life, in the second month, on the 17th day of the month, on that day all the springs of the vast watery deep burst open and the floodgates of the heavens were opened.

12  And the rain poured down on the earth for 40 days and 40 nights.

13 On that very day, Noah went into the ark along with his sons, Shem, Ham, and Ja′pheth, and his wife and the three wives of his sons.

14 They went in with every wild animal according to its kind, and every domestic animal according to its kind, and every creeping animal of the earth according to its kind, and every flying creature according to its kind, every bird, every winged creature.

15 They kept going to Noah inside the ark, two by two, of every sort of flesh that has the breath of life.

16 So they went in, male and female of every sort of flesh, just as God had commanded him. After that Jehovah shut the door behind him.

17 The flooding continued for 40 days on the earth, and the waters kept increasing and began carrying the ark, and it was floating high above the earth.

18 The waters became overwhelming and kept increasing greatly upon the earth, but the ark floated on the surface of the waters.

19  The waters overwhelmed the earth so greatly that all the tall mountains under the whole heavens were covered.

20 The waters rose up to 15 cubits above the mountains.

21 So all living creatures that were moving on the earth perished—the flying creatures, the domestic animals, the wild animals, the swarming creatures, and all mankind.

22 Everything on dry land that had the breath of life in its nostrils died.

23 So He wiped every living thing from the surface of the earth, including man, animals, creeping animals, and the flying creatures of the sky. They were all wiped off the earth; only Noah and those with him in the ark survived.

24  And the waters continued overwhelming the earth for 150 days.
